Set Ups & Game Plans

  • Breaking out to new highs on strong volume
  • Stocks breaking out due to message board chatter, newsletter, twitter etc
  • Breaking out do to panicking shorts/margin calls (Most huge upward moves are a result of short squeezes)
  • Stocks breaking out at round dollars
  • News based breakouts (earnings, FDA approval, buyout rumors, reduced debt, etc)
  • Sympathy plays stocks that will follow in a sector based off another stock that has done well (learn this from Kunal on Bows on Wall St)
  • Stocks I look for:
  • Find stocks in hot sectors-follow patterns
  • Find stocks moving higher in volume. Find pivot points and watch volume % change. Usually can mean institutional buying.
  • Look for gap ups or highly active stocks (can usually find those on nasdaq.com under pre-market most actives) and buy the first pullback. Look for consolidation (bouncers)
  • Momentum stocks on the 1 min chart. (gap ups or stocks running on news)
  • Stocks trading HOD late in the day. I tend to hold stocks over night that are trading near high of the day near close.
